Re: Bubba The Redneck Werewolf Comic: Honorary Forum

Well, I'm not sure that Bubba would really go to see a psychologist. In the comics, Bubba is proud to be a werewolf and is darn going to stay that way. As for children being afraid of him., I think it all depends on the child and what he/she has been told what to be afraid of.

I remember in the Casper The Friendly Ghost cartoons, that the older kids were afraid of him but the very young ones weren't because they weren't told yet that they were supposed to be afraid of ghosts or have no knowledge on what a ghost is.

Yeah.  Gee, the things we're not afraid of until we are told to be...

I think this Bubba story is set in an alternate, more serious reality.

But I like silly/fantasy reality and not the serious stuff.

Re: Bubba The Redneck Werewolf Comic: Honorary Forum

I'm really sorry that this has caused some distress.  I like the silly side of Bubba as well. Hats off to Mitch for making an iconic monster into a great platform for satiric humor. I have alot of time to think here; and I believe that all story telling is an allegory for the author's viewpoint. I may be wrong. The rest of this is just my opinion and experience. I love werewolf movies. Ever since I saw The Wolf Man when I was seven or eight I thought it would be cool to be able to turn into a wolf. I thought it would be cool because when I had all that power I could help people who were being hurt by other bigger people. A few decades goes by and I find an old BtRW comic mixed in with the magazines on the ward. Mitch brought my dreams to life, and with humor. For me life is made up of two kinds of events. There's the ones that are foisted on you. Your car gets broken into, a tornado destroys your house, etc. Stuff you have to deal with out of the blue. Then there are the choices we make. usually its simple stuff, vanilla or chocolate, black socks or brown socks, etc. But once in awhile there's the life changing choices. Stay married or get divorced, take the drug or quit. This is what drama is made of in real life and in stories. Turmoil is what makes life interesting enough to write about. So if your inclined consider this. Bubba is worried that he may be losing his grip on the lupine side of himself. He manages to find one of the people responsible for his transformation. Before he can kill him, the guy tells Bubba that he can change him back. Does Bubba take the cure? He won't have to worry about hurting people; but, will Bobbie-Jo still love him? Will people still respect him? Can he continue to help people as just Bubba Blanche? What would you do? I hope this is interesting enough for some of you to contemplate when you have a chance. For you others I hope it doesn't take the fun out of good ol' Bubba. It doesn't for me. Thanks Mitch for creating an incredible multidimensional character,(personality), with all these different potentials.  I was a little "noisy" on the ward last night so I have to start a new regimen of sedatives. I won't be able to write for awhile, I think they know and are changing the passwords again. to paraphrase Mitch, "discuss, discuss!".

Re: Bubba The Redneck Werewolf Comic: Honorary Forum

When my niece was much younger than the college student she is today, I was told by my brother that she was afraid of the "Closet Creature". So, i went over and decided to do battle with this horror from the back of her psyche and Barbie storage facility.  At the time, Bubba had been around for about a year  or so. Now remember, this is the 1995 Bubba. Bigger, meaner and so on.

So, I told my little niece to just wait out in the living room and Uncle Mitch would take care of the monster. While she waited out side, I proceeded to go into my "Bubba" voice and then throw stuffed animals and pillows around and make it sound like Bubba was beating the tar outta the creature. I then invited her back into the room and had the window open at this time. I pointed out towards the lake and bushes in the backyard and said to her: "Now, kiddo, you look towards those bushes rustling and moving... (Thank goodness for a windy night)  That's my buddy Bubba and he's chasing that ugly cuss of a closet bozo right outta here. Bubba will keep an eye on ya from now on till you can sleep unafraid." She hugged me and looked at me and said" He's okay...for a big hairy werewolf." This is when I started to re-think how I wanted Bubba to really be.

Now the other best story is from Wolfman Hal.
Hal was dressed in his Bubba suit and was prowling the streets of Philly one afternoon at the Wizard show. A couple of cops were having fun with Bubba and they were taking pictures and talking with Bubba/Hal. They thought (the cops) it would be funny to arrest Bubba for a photo they would use at the station house. Now I had just come outside to talk to Hal, when I see Three cops placing Hal under arrest. I was freaked out and was about to run over and see what was going on, when a little kid about 7 years old runs up and begins to hug Hal/Bubba's legs at the knees, this kid yells defiantly at the policemen; "You leave Bubba alone! He's a good Werewolf!!"

All i can say is this...Bubba is magic. Bubba gets your mind and your imagination. Bubba is a good werewolf to those who need him to be. and Bubba is the worst nightmare you ever will have if you’re up to no good. Because Bubba is what's good in all of us, and he takes care of those who can't do it for themselves. But he’s also a smart mouth, hard partyin', good ol' boy.... So like the Florida weather...sunny one day and a hurricane blowin' the next. This doesn’t make him a candidate for therapy…this makes  him like anyone else. Some days you are in a great mood and some days just out of sorts. But never manic or dangerous to  innocent folks...just the jerks who mess up our fun or  monsters who terrorize small children in their sleep.

Re: Bubba The Redneck Werewolf Comic: Honorary Forum

I like what Taylor Mane (Sabretooth in X-Men) said when asked if he picked on littler kids when he was a boy: no.  He was the one who when he saw bullies beating and robbing the physically weak would catch them and make them return what they stole.

Kind of like The Green Man, or a male version of Kali-Ma.
