*her pace slows and she falls into a steady slow trot, her sides heaving, a soothing heat spreading over her skin. She breaks through the wall of the forest to the soft bank of the lake and slakes her thirst with a few laps of the cool water. A distant motion suddenly captures her eye and her head rises suddenly, her yellow eyes focusing on an old buck along the lakeside to her right.
Ancient instincts rise within her. The run has made her hungry. She plans to make a meal of this old one. She slowly lopes into the shadow of the forest rimming the lake and moves without sound towards the buck who is lying quietly, staring reflectively over the water.*

*as she nears she begins to wonder about the old buck. Something in his gaze, the set of his brow has stirred her human curiosity. Her paw falls awkwardly on a small tree limb and it shatters, the sound like a gunshot over the water. She freezes, but the old buck makes no move.
Oh surely he heard that.
She realizes she can't just jump out at the buck. Her hunger fades as the curiosity builds, and she slowly steps out onto the grasses, poking her head from behind a bush.
He turns, with no hurry, to look at her.
She grins at him, a little guiltily, realizing she's showing ALOT of teeth. Hi.
He snorts and looks back over the water. A cloud of white from his breath drifts off like some earthbound spirit.
Hello.
She blinked and tilted her head incredulously. She'd understood that. Weird!
She moved from the cover of the bush and walked softly closer. He was really quite big. She sat on her haunches a safe distance away.*
